DuckDuckGo has been sending out emails to remind users of their inclusion in Apple’s mobile operating system because this is clearly a big deal for the fledgling search engine. It has the potential to expose the search engine to an entirely new audience, and it gives current users the ability to use DuckDuckGo more conveniently on their favorite mobile device.
In order to help new users get the most out of DuckDuckGo and explore all the features it offers, the company has set up a tour to help users learn more about their search engine.
When DuckDuckGo first launched it really only offered one feature worth bragging about, which was the ability to browse securely without your history being tracked. While they still offer that feature, DuckDuckGo has since grown into a full fledged search engine comprised of features you’d expect to see from the likes of Google and Bing.
DuckDuckGo is highlighting the following new features in particular:
- Great results without being tracked: “DuckDuckGo has everything you expect a search engine to have… all while respecting your privacy.”
- Instant Answers: Get answers right away without having to click on to another page. Similar to Google’s quick answers.
- Customization: You can customize the entire look and feel of DuckDuckGo. You can also customize results by giving preference to results to your local area.
- !Bangs: Search other sites from DuckDuckGo by typing commands like “!amazon shoes” into the search bar.
If you would like to set up DuckDuckGo as the default search engine on your iOS version of Safari, after you have installed iOS 8 simply go to the DuckDuckGo homepage and tap ‘Use in Safari’ at the bottom for simple directions.
